Fringe Friday

I’m ignoring all the talk about Fringe’s move to the Friday night “death slot”. Period. Fox seems to be going out of their way to let people know they didn't move the show to kill it off, let's hope that's true. Friday’s episode “The Firefly” had all the ingredients that make a good Fringe Episode, plus a few cool extras.

We got mad-scientist Walter, The Observers, Doc Brown, and a nicely placed Twin Peaks reference. Apparently Walter's glasses were a gift from his pal Dr. Jacoby from Washington. Awesome. The fact that those guys know each other makes all sorts of sense.

Christopher Lloyd's burned out musician character fit right in with all the time-travelly business going on, nice that they worked the year 1985 into the script.

As long as they keep cranking out episodes like these I don't see the fans going anywhere.

Fringe Premiere

I usually hate any sort of time travel/displacement/body swapping type plot devices in TV shows. Most of the time it's a sign that the writers are out of ideas & feel the need to "shake things up", and it usually ends up ruining the show. (ahem LOST ahem Heroes ahem) As good as the finale for Fringe's second season was, I had some doubts about where season 3 was headed since we were clearly going to be stuck in the Walternate universe for a while longer.

The premiere for season 3 has me feeling good about things though. It's obvious that the other universe is central to the underlying mystery behind all the strange events and has been planned out since the first season. I didn't see the whole memory implant thing coming, very interesting twist on the mistaken identity idea. Plus, Walternate is an evil badass. I'll watch that guy act in just about anything. You've got me hooked for another season of Fringe, thanks.
