Disintegration Remaster

"THIS MUSIC HAS BEEN MIXED TO BE PLAYED LOUD SO TURN IT UP."

This one album has influenced my taste in music & my guitar playing for over 20 years. This is my desert island album. The one piece of music I would save if my house was burning down. For me, it's the perfect example of what an album should be. Consistent, brilliantly executed, and meaningful beyond its years.

And it has never sounded better. The original album stays true to the original mix for the most part, what you get here is clarity & definition that nobody had the ability to produce in the 80s. The 2nd disk of rarities is interesting, mostly demos & live takes but no significant unreleased track that you can't live without. The real coolness is the 3rd disk, Entreat Plus. Originally, Entreat was a live sampler of Disintegration songs but only some of the tracks from the album were included. The new version includes every song from the album, recreating the experience of hearing the entire album played live in order.

It was definitely worth the wait. Now if we can get Wish sometime soon, along with the Lost Wishes Ep, I'll be a happy guy.

Roger O'Donnell Remembers Recording Disintegration

Roger O'Donnell joined and left The Cure twice over the last 20 years or so, he's definitely missed these days. Even with Porl back in the band I'm not sure I dig their new sound w/o keyboards much at all. He recently wrote quite a bit about the process of recording Disintegration. He posts an early demo of Fear Of Ghosts, has quite a few positive things to say about Robert, and talks a little about Laurence Tolhurst and how/why they fired him. It's lengthy but if you're a dork about The Cure like me you'll get a kick out of it.

The Cure: Disintegration Re-Issue in 2010

Fucking finally. Robert posted an update about the Disintegration reissue. The short story is you get a 3 CD set with the remastered album, bonus demos & unreleased stuff, AND...... an expanded version of Entreat which has been out of print forever.

If that wasn't enough Cure goodness for you, we'll also get In Orange & Show on DVD, a Cure at the BBC box set, and something he's referring to as Mixed Up 2. Now give me Wish + Lost Wishes and I'm set. Read more over at Slicing Up Eyeballs.

Deftones - If Only Tonight We Could Sleep

Yep, still stuck on covers. This is from the MTV Icon show they did for the Cure a few years ago. Mostly douchebags ( ahem AFI ) but los Deftones were awesome. This one cover definitely got me to check out a lot more of their stuff.

The Cure - Underneath The Stars

I can't stop listening to this song in the car. Easily the best song they've written in 15 years. Wish they'd do an album full of songs this good. Maybe someday we'll get the remasters for Wish & Disintegration. In the meantime.....
