Daniel Johnston is one of those people who are both inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time. I was lucky enough to pick up some original drawings of his about 10 years ago at a local comic shop, I treasure them in the same way you'd think about a Picassso or a Warhol or something like that.I'm pretty sure the background riff in the first one is Story of an Artist, which I've always loved. I'm totally getting this.

ReplyDeleteI produced and funded this film (mostly with money earned stacking shelves). Even with the support of Daniel and his team it was a huge effort to get it out to the public.
Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, that is 'The Story of an Artist' you hear there. I played that to Daniel shortly before he when on stage at the O2 in London last year. He seemed really excited by it, saying that it was the best version of that song he had ever recorded.
